Out of his own time, Christian Bale, took time out to visit Aurora, Colorado. Not being sent by PR or Warner Brothers, Bale wanted to see some of the people who had been rocked by this tragedy and their families on his own time.
Actual Superhero Christian Bale.
My 11 year old sister just asked me what a ‘menage a trois’ is (damn you Katy Perry) - I told her it was a type of French dessert.. I mean, it’s not a complete lie, right?
Another reason to love Miss Monroe
“I owe Marilyn Monroe a real debt…it was because of her that I played the Mocambo, a very popular nightclub in the ’50s. She personally called the owner of the Mocambo, and told him she wanted me booked immediately, and if he would do it, she promised she would take a front table every night. She told him – and it was true, due to Marilyn’s superstar status – that the press would go wild. The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. The press went overboard. After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman – and ahead of her time and she didn’t know it.” – Ella Fitzgerald
I have to admit I’m really fascinated by Marilyn Monroe, especially just lately for some reason.
I take full advantage of my boyfriend having a LoveFilm account and asked him to rent ‘My Week With Marilyn’ for me.
I wasn’t too sure how anyone was going to pull off playing such an iconic woman, and was slightly skeptical when I heard it was Michelle Williams. I hadn’t yet seen any of her previous movies, therefore I guess I didn’t have much to go on.
I have to say, she did a really good job, and I enjoyed it more than I even thought I might. It was a great perception of her life and of what being Marilyn must have like, although deeply sad to see just what it was like for her during the height of her career.
I can’t imagine the pressure of keeping up this ‘Monroe persona’ and having everyone you let in walk away just because their expectations of this life were too great for an ordinary woman to keep up in her day-to-day life.
Apart from the obvious outer beauty, I’m not sure just what it was that everyone adored about Marilyn. Were her looks enough to make those who saw her just fall in love with her completely? To me, she seemed to have such a good sense of humour and seemed very humble. What I would give to have met the lady herself! She will continue to make me wonder and I can’t wait to buy the books written about her life so I can indulge deeper in to this interesting character and the lady that created her.
